Introduction of Membrane Structure

The Tensile Membrane Structure may be classified into framed, air and tension membrane structures. These are widely used for 3D-shape construction. Semi-permanent membrane structures are now available with the development of new coating textiles of strength and durability.

Possible Areas of Application

Membrane structures may be used for sports facilities, shopping malls, indoor swimming pools, exhibition centers, logistics warehouses, outdoor music halls, etc.

The services include design of the membrane structures, computer simulation, structural analysis and drawings, manufacture and installation at sites.

PTFE membrane

PTFE-coated fiberglass membrane is generally called PTFE membrane. PTFE membrane is made from woven fiberglass base yarn which is coated on both sides with PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) or otherwise known as Teflon. The fibreglass yarn and the PTFE coating are both non-combustible and hence this fabric can be used in a majority of buildings especially in those requiring materials to meet fire safety standards and strict building regulations.

PVDF membrane

The most widely used membrane material is PVC-coated polyester with PVDF surface finish or commonly known as PVDF membrane. The woven polyester fiber yarn is coated with PVC. As PVC deteriorates when exposed to ultraviolet light over time, a layer of PVDF (polyvinyldinediflouride) is applied on top of the PVC coatings to retard the deterioration of PVC. Both PVC and polyester yarn are flammable materials and hence are not usually used in buildings which expect large human traffic.
